This course focuses on different types of manufacturing equipment. During the first stage of production, raw materials are processed by this manufacturing equipment. Conveyor lines then would move the products through the plant to the final finishing, painting, or processing areas and then to the ship-ping department.
Manufacturing equipment contains moving parts that are driven by electric motors that are, in turn, guided by control systems that get input information from sensors. If the machine isn’t powered by an electric motor, it will be powered by pneumatic or hydraulic systems. Any of these components can fail at any time. Failure can cause the machine to produce faulty parts or can cause a complete stoppage of an assembly line. The purpose of a preventive maintenance program is to locate possible machine or equipment faults before the machine fails.
